Charlotte Farmer DEng

Charlotte is the Chairman of the Board of Directors for Mobility Unlimited Technology Worldwide (MUTW), a start-up company that equips crosswalks with safety alerts for active wheelchair, deaf, and blind users. She has guided MUTW’s go-to-market strategy and revenue model; secured social impact investments and negotiated with international suppliers. She is also a Board Advisor to HireVue (a Carlyle Group company), a global leader in video interviewing, assessments, chat and recruiting automation technology. As Ex-officio Board Chair for Crittenton Services of Greater Washington (CSGW), a non-profit empowering teen-girls to overcome obstacles, and set and achieve goals, she guided the board through a turnaround of key programs and investments, leading to additional grants and donors that increased its budget by 35%. Prior to becoming Board Chair, she chaired the Compensation, Nominating, and Governance Committees.

During Charlotte’s 30 year professional career, Charlotte has aided start-up, rapid growth, mature, consolidation, regulated and traditional businesses ranging from $2 billion to $178 billion in revenue. Currently, she is the Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL), a global leader in fundamental and applied safety science research. Prior to UL, she served as the Operations Director for MITRE Corporation (a $2 billion high-tech research hub), where she managed a $168 million budget and allocated funds to build capabilities, hire and train talent, and modernize infrastructure for seven business units. Among her many accomplishments as Practice Lead in Booz Allen Hamilton’s Strategy and Transformation Leadership sector, Charlotte transformed a declining business and accelerated revenue growth from $0.1 million to $125 million per annum; generated $700 million in Defense Contracts across five Booz Allen business sectors; and recalibrated the global consultant’s D&I efforts by creating D&I leadership performance indicators, guiding socialization of D&I core values, and expanding MBA recruiting to HBCUs. Prior to Booz Allen, Charlotte she held a variety of leadership roles at Eastman Chemical.

Charlotte holds a MBA, and B.S. and M.S. degrees in Chemical Engineering, a doctorate in Systems Engineering, and a Professional Board Director certification. Rotary International honored Charlotte as a Paul Harris Fellow for building impactful Leadership, Ethics, Diversity, and STEM (LEADS) coalitions and filling the STEM pipeline with multi-cultural leaders of integrity.
